Babson faculty and CITG are pioneering innovative ways of expanding the traditional face-to-face classroom to enhance learning though the use of technology. By leveling time and distance barriers, technology opens exciting new avenues for learning. CITG's goal is not to use technology for its own sake, but rather to support and augment learning through technology. Our team has extensive experience designing course materials and curriculums grounded in solid instructional design and adult learning principles.
Consider just a few ways that educational technology enhances the classroom learning experience:
- Flexibility: Innovative teaching methods can be designed to meet the needs of different learning styles and support adult learning principles. Let's face it – not everybody learns most effectively from a "sage on the stage" delivering a lecture. Adult learners, in particular, tend to be more self-guided in their learning. Due to wider experience, they bring more to a learning situation – and they expect to take more away.
- Quality: Educational technology can expose students to the most current research and materials as well as to leading experts in the field. Who better to introduce students to a cutting-edge theory than the person who created it?
- Accessibility: Teaching with technology can overcome restrictions of time and space to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population. Adult learners, especially, are faced with competing priorities of work, family, and school. Innovative teaching with technology works with time and distance constraints rather than against them.
This section highlights four broad areas of innovative teaching that Babson faculty members are successfully navigating with CITG's help:
Throughout this section are real examples of how faculty members have applied these approaches as well as practical Teaching Tips and links to additional online resources.
If you are interested in enhancing your teaching methods through the use of technology and would like to consult with our instructional designers and developers, please do not hesitate to contact CITG.
