Q: Who is currently using collaboration software at Babson? A: Babson Faculty and students are using many forms of collaboration software. The Babson Faculty has been using Elluminate for quite some time for fully online classes as well as simultaneous classes. (Simultaneous classes involve a professor and part of the class in a face-to-face classroom setting, while other students access the class online via Elluminate.) Students use collaboration software, such as Breeze, to review content online before a class begins. Students also use Windows Net Meeting and Blackboard to collaborate with fellow students on group projects. Q: What kind of equipment do I need in order to use collaboration software? A: The equipment needed depends on the software you are using. For most collaboration programs, you will need a high-speed internet connection, microphone and headphones (or headset), and sometimes a web camera for specific programs. That's it! Q: Is there a cost involved with collaboration software? A: In most cases there is no cost beyond the minimal cost of the headset (which you can purchase for about $10). Most of the software we use is available free of charge for anyone in the Babson community. Q: How do I get started with Breeze? A: If you want to use Breeze, you can start on your own. A good place to start is to take a look at our Web Presentations section of our site. Pay close attention to the tips and tutorials on Breeze. Q: How do I get started with Elluminate? A: If you want to conduct a class online either simultaneously or fully online, contact CITG. We would be happy to get you started.
