Tunritin.com checks against three databases of content:
1)A copy of the publicly accessible Internet (more than 2 billion pages updated at a rate of 30-40 million pages per day)
2) Millions of published works (including ABI/info, periodical abstracts, business datelines, and tens of thousands of electronic books)
3) Every student paper ever submitted to Turnitin.com (which grows daily!)

Helping Babson students with their writing development is a key focus of Babson College. While faculty and educational resources (such as the Babson Librarians) spend concentrated efforts teaching students the difference between original and non-original work, students can still have a hard time grasping the nuances of plagiarism. Here are a few examples of how online plagiarism prevention software is being used here at Babson:
- Students work on a semester-long original writing project and need to check the work prior to submitting it to ensure that they have cited all works properly
- Students work in groups to create research papers and need to make sure all the statements are paraphrased and not plagiarized
- Faculty sometimes receive written assignments that appear questionable and need to check them for originality
Babson faculty saw a need for an online tool that faculty and students could use to help verify the originality of a student's work. The technology that Babson uses to support plagiarism prevention is Turnitin.
